Milano-Tornino
Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Campari
1.5 oz. Vermouth di Torino (Dopo Teatro Cocchi Vermouth Amaro)
Stir and serve “on the rocks” with an orange slice.
The Italians had it right, and still do. Prime one’s tired but happy body and mind for a warm meal with a cool drink. Something bitter and sweet, herbacious, floral, earthy, and easy on the eyes to boot. Filling the nose with cooling fumes, coating the mouth with fruit and caramel, warming the belly, soothing the mind. Nothing too strong before the food arrives. Perhaps make it an Americano with my meal, and a Negroni with desert. For now, I’ll have a Milano-Torino, please.
A drink of two cities, said to go back centuries in tradition, the “Mi-To” as it is sometimes called is a blend of Campari, from the Italian city of Milan, and Cocchi sweet vermouth, from the city of Turin. Adding Seltzer will deliver you an Amercano. Adding an equal measure of Gin, the famous Negroni.
